“There is of course a deep spiritual need which the pilgrimage seems to satisfy, particularly for those hardy enough to tackle the journey on foot.”
― Edwin Mullins, The Pilgrimage to Santiago
The route to the Panchchuli glacier abounds in exotic scenery, Ancient villages, snowcapped mountains, gushing streams, Alpine meadows and a rich variety of flora & fauna. And from the glacier one can see the Panchchuli peaks in their towering glory.
Panchchuli base camp trek is the safest and easiest trek in Kumaon and is very short too. It’s a 35-40 km trek that passes through Urthing ,Bongling, Syela, Nangling, Baling, and Dugtu-Dantu villages in the darma valley before reaching the Panchchuli Glacier. On the final lap at the village Dugtu-Dantu one gets the majestic spectacle of Panchchuli that derives its name from the five peaks The 5 km length and width of the glacier projects out from this range. A trek of about 4 km from village Dugtu-Dantu leads to the base of the glacier. This is a delightful tour which becomes more wonderful with climbing upwards.
